 "Great Radio" 2010-01-13
By Wisc Bob
I bought this radio for my son as he needed something for his room. This radio provides great sound quality! It is great that he can get all the additional HD stations. And the sound quality on AM, primarily for listing to sports, is awesome....no static. It will also charge his iPod Touch and allow him to play that on the radio. Also very user friendly, easy to use.

"Has a mind of its own" 2010-01-07
By Mrs. Foxcroft
As with the other reviewers, I was so excited to find an HD radio with an iPod docking station.

The unit for the most part performs well, except if we leave the unit on for several hours, it automatically changes bands from FM to AM then automatically increases the volume from a 4 or 5 to 14 or 15, and takes the display brightness from low to high.

The other thing that is annoying, is the display is way too bright even on the lowest setting. I guess if you were looking for a night light it would be perfect.

And then the last thing, while the sound is OK it is far inferior to Sony's other products at the same price point.

 "1 alarm, no snooze" 2010-01-06
By Jaz Phann (Red Bank, NJ)
This radio sounded great and received regular FM clearly and w/o static. HD was, of course, pristine. The iPhone sounded good and integrated easily. But I needed it most as a clock radio. I've become accustomed to my two alarm/snoozable Sony clock radio that I didn't even think to check: but once I set this one up I discovered neither a second alarm, nor a snooze button. Wait, no snooze button? Really?

Sorry. Back it goes.

 "I like it" 2010-01-03
By S. MCCANN (Graham)
I use this radio at my machine shop where everything interferes with radio signals. this radio besides being an hd radio of course has the r6 cable connection in the back so you can connect it to an outdoor fm antenna which is what i do so i love listoning to all the different radio stations on that radio when everyone else with there regular radios at the shop can only get the the most strongest stations. which is about 3. actually though i noticed with the included wire antennas it came with it had good reception with more stations than most of the standerd radios there at my work. this has good sound quality for its small size too. i like the readout digital display that shows who is talking or singing at the moment. what makes it only a 3 star for me though is that it does not have any type of battery backup. so once you unplug it you lose any saved info.

 "An OK radio" 2009-12-29
By Z. Li
Got it from sonystyle refurbished for 70 bucks. Not bad even for for a regular alarm radio with an ipod dock.

The reception is good, the sound quality is good for the size of the speakers. Good for bed/bathroom or kitchen.

The HD radio sound itself is very impressive, very clear. The ipod dock works very good, now can use the remote to play with the ipod, instead of using the finger to poke through the menu.

The memory will lost in less than 3 min. Try a few times, finally figured out it is 3 min not 2 not 5. The radio preset is stupid, no auto tuning, no numbered station button. It is a pain to jump from station 2 to station 12.

No audio out, so the idea of output the good radio sound to a home theater is invalid here, need another radio for the home theater.

The fan is sort of annoying, but turn up the volume is the easiest way to cover that noise up.

The worst thing: The backlight can not be turned off. Even at the dimmest setting, the backlight is still fairly bright. Very annoying when put it near the bed.

 "big display" 2009-12-29
By Vicki L. Gress (Effingham, Illinois United States)
Small footprint. Big buttons. Large, easy to read time display, even without glasses. However, the blue light that is cast by the time display is bright (like a nightlight), even on the lowest setting (of which there are 3 choices). There is a display of the days of the week, but it's small and you WILL need glasses to read. Sound is very good for a player this size. Has dual alarms with choices for weekends, daily, or Mon thru Fri--therefore, no need to remember to set your alarm every night. The sleep button has choice of 15 min, 30, 60 or 90 min and you can go to sleep to the radio, ipod, or CD at one volume level, and wake to the radio, ipod, or CD at a different volume level, or wake to the buzzer. Radio/CD plays for 1 hr after alarming then shuts off. If you tell it to wake you to the CD but you forget to install the CD, it will default to wake you to buzzer, rather than not alarming at all. The snooze button is very large and directly on top of the clock. The ipod holder retracts when not in use. I haven't tried the ipod portion yet. Comes with FM antenna and an AM antenna; you can preset the radio stations instead of having to scroll through staticy stations. The directions are thorough and easy to understand.

 "Personal Use" 2009-12-28
By CD (Texas)
Before purchase this product, I had review all the comments about this, which made me think if I was making the right desition. I end up being afraid of disapoinment after go trough all the trouble.

I can tell after received the component, I am Very Happy with the desition.

- People have mention sound issues. Remember, this is just an desk/night table Alarm/Radio/Cd player/Iphone-Ipod station. This is not a Bose stereo. The sound is very clear, and loud enough to enjoy a good sound coming from it, 3 rooms away from where this is.

- All the features in this component, are great. I was specting just some of the features. It is nice to see how many features this have. All what you like to do playing Cds, this one has. Auto tunning for your favorite Radio Stations (memo), Iphone features, etc.

- It has 2 diferent Alarm settings to use with what you most like to wake up with. Nice surprise with the Buzz. I had a very anoying buzz on my previous alarm clock, the buzz of this helps you to Wake You Up in a very comfortable way. And has the feature for you to set how much time to have between snooze.

- The light in the front, has 3 settings; for the low settin does not ligh up the room or anything. Tip for people who likes a dark rooms: Buy some Tint film, cut it in the same shape where the clock is, and place it at front. It will reduce much more the brightness.

If you are having second thoughts about this component, I can tell you, you won't be dissapointed. Right size, doesn't take a lot of room. It is just right. Tip No. 2 if you like to sleep or wake up with Nature sounds, On Iphone/Ipod, there is a APP for that, that can complete entirely your enjoyment with this component.

Enjoy!!!.

"Like it so far - took time to figure out the AM antenna" 2009-12-28
By H. Shan (New York, NY)
Just received this for Christmas and so far it's great. A big upgrade to my previous am/fm clock radio. Took a little bit of time to figure out how to set it all up, but one piece of advice for those who are having trouble with the AM antenna: I didn't realize that you had to pull out the rubber ends to fully expose the wire underneath before you connect it to the radio. Since there is no internal antenna, the AM radio will not work at all if you this is not attached correctly. Just a piece of advice from one who took a little time before figuring it out!

"Inferior sound even for clock radio; opted to return" 2009-12-21
By Upstater (New York)
Perhaps I expected a bit much for a clock radio/ipod dock/cd player. Sony usually delivers a great product so I thought the $100 for this item would be well spent. I love how compact it is, and the big, bright display. The CD player is sveltely tucked behind the face of the clock. Unfortunately, however, the sound just didn't cut it for CD/ipod use. Quite simply, it sounds tinny and distorted. I can really only see this as being useful as purely an alarm clock and for brief periods of radio listening. For the same price, I would likely skip the alarm function next time and pick a plain speaker dock with better quality sound.

 "it's ok" 2009-12-05
By J. Hiraga (Los Angeles, CA)
i got it because the reviews read that the sound quality is good but it's just ok, i guess for an alarm clock. i was pretty disappointed with the sound quality but otherwise, it's good. it doesn't take up too much space. i think it's over priced though. easy to use.
